Treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma in adults
Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma – belongs to the group of malignant diseases of the lymphatic system, which is characterized by the spread of metastases to neighboring organs and tissues, as well as an increase in lymph nodes. This pathology is more common than Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The formation in the lymph nodes progresses rapidly and the symptoms are more pronounced. When the doctor detects the disease, he proceeds to immediate treatment.

Treatment
Treatment depends on several factors: the type of lymphoma, the location of the tumor, the extent of its spread, and the age and general health of the patient. Aggressive lymphomas respond better to therapy than indolent lymphomas and in many cases can be completely cured, especially if diagnosed early.
The main treatment for aggressive lymphomas is polychemotherapy, while radiation therapy and surgery are of secondary importance. This is because aggressive NHL is not a local, but a systemic process, and therefore therapy should be directed not so much to a specific affected area as to the body as a whole. Intrathecal therapy is also performed to prevent damage to the central nervous system. In addition to cytostatic drugs, rituximab (Mabthera) has been successfully used in the therapy of B-cell NHL in recent years.
If standard therapy is ineffective or if the disease recurs, bone marrow transplantation can be used, especially in young patients. If the bone marrow is not involved in the tumor process, then autologous transplantation is more often performed, otherwise – allogeneic.
