    Pediatric Translational Medicine Program (PTMP)

Oncohematological diseases include chronic and acute leukemia, non-Hodgin lymphomas and Hodgkin lymphoma, myelomas, various abnormalities of spinal cord development (myelodysplasia) and other abnormalities. The course of the disease is accompanied by a violation of the normal process of blood formation. One of the most common diseases of this group is considered blood cancer, which ranks 5th among all oncological diseases. Treatment of oncohematology requires special professionalism of medical personnel, the best innovative solutions and high-quality equipment.

Recently, Tel Aviv Medical Clinic doctors have developed new drugs for the treatment of blood cancer. However, 20 to 30 per cent of children with cancer do not respond to known treatments. Scientists are trying to understand the causes of the appearance of pathology.

What is Pediatric Translational Medicine Program (PTMP)

Tel Aviv Medical Clinic researchers are working with our doctors and other specialists to use their findings to create new treatments and procedures. Thanks to the Pediatric Translational Medicine (PTMP) program, every child and young adult suffering from cancer scrutinizes their tumor for genetic mutations. This information could provide valuable clues that physicians and researchers can use to select the most effective therapy for each patient. It also allows them to start new research projects and develop lifesaving drugs. In the clinic, our goal is to provide the most effective therapy from the very beginning of your child’s treatment and reduce the number of children who do not respond to treatment.

PTMP is a precision medicine project bringing together experts from several departments of the clinic, including pediatrics, pathology, and clinical genetics. We combine our knowledge, ideas and hobbies to identify the roots of cancer in every child cared for in the clinic. The PTMP team performs genetic testing for your child’s disease as a routine part of their care.

At Tel Aviv Medical Clinic, we use state-of-the-art methods to profile every child’s cancer in a way that can’t compare to any other cancer centre. We use the latest genetic sequencing tests to analyze cancer DNA from a sample of tumor tissue, blood or bone marrow, looking for mutations that cause cancer and cause it to grow.
