    Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors

    Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors

    Neuroendocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract account for less than 2% of all tumors of this localization. The incidence of the largest group is patients with carcinoids. Pancreatic tumors include gastrinoma, somatostatinoma, glucagonoma, vipoma, insulinoma. Carcinoid tumors that develop from enterochromaffin cells and insulinoma, the source of which are cells of the islet apparatus of the pancreas, are benign in 80-90% of cases since they are based on the transformation of specialized mature cells. The source of other neuroendocrine tumors, such as gastrinoma, vipoma, somatostatinoma, is a multipotent stem cell that gives rise to both endocrine and exocrine cells. The potential for malignant growth of neoplasms from these cells reaches 60-70%. Pancreatic tumors can be hormone-secreting. Experts believe that pathology may arise due to the following factors:

    • Bad habits;
    • Improper nutrition;
    • Interaction with chemicals;
    • The presence of chronic inflammation;
    • Living in an unfavourable ecological environment.

    Treatment

    Our clinic Tel Aviv Medical Clinic employs experienced doctors who have the highest qualifications and the necessary knowledge in the field of detection and treatment of formations in the pancreas. We use unique technologies and the latest equipment. Our staff provide round-the-clock care and monitoring for our patients. We try to create the most comfortable conditions for a hospital stay.

    The problem of treating patients is not only to eliminate the tumor process but also to get rid of the painful symptom complex caused by the overproduction of a characteristic active hormone or peptide. Often, the cause of death of a patient is not the progression of the tumor, but the complications that develop as a result of hormonal overproduction.

    Radical removal of the primary tumor is the most effective method of treatment since it interrupts not only the growth of a malignant tumor, but also relieves the patient from painful suffering. The surgeons of our department use minimally invasive surgical techniques. Thus, the doctors of our clinic manage to help even in the most difficult situations.
