    Breast Prosthesis

    Breast Prosthesis

    A mastectomy is an operation that certainly saves a life, but cripples a woman’s body and psyche. An important part of the rehabilitation program is the restoration of self-confidence, a sense of a fulfilling life. An experienced doctor at the leading Israeli clinic Tel Aviv Medical Clinic will help you choose a prosthesis after a mastectomy that is ideal for you.

    The leading Israeli clinic employs experienced doctors who treat breast diseases. Our department is equipped with the latest equipment, which allows the use of unique methods of therapy. Every year, our employees improve their skills in leading research centres. Our medical staff provides round-the-clock care and control to patients.

    What are the prostheses?

    The use of breast exoprostheses carries not only cosmetic functions but also:

    • contribute to the healing of excised tissues;
    • accelerate postoperative adaptation;
    • make up for tissue deficiency;
    • prevent secondary disturbances (curvature of the spine, impaired posture, lowering of the shoulder).

    Breast prostheses are divided into several categories, based on their functional features:

    • postoperative,
    • permanent wear,
    • lightweight,
    • special prostheses for training,
    • contour.

    How is the procedure performed?

    After a mastectomy, the chest wall is covered with too thin tissues. Thus, complications (infection or rupture of the prosthesis) are more common, and the result is most often mediocre. To alleviate these undesirable effects, we have developed a method of fat transplantation, called “filling”, which is implemented before the breast is restored. This method allows you to increase the thickness of the tissues that will subsequently cover the prosthesis. Significantly improving the quality of the results and reducing the possibility of complications, the method of own fat transplantation offers reconstruction with the use of a prosthesis to more patients and, thus, reduces the use of the flap method.

    Fat is taken by liposuction (from the surface of the abdomen, or thighs), then injected under the skin of the chest until a prosthesis is installed. In order to arrive at a satisfactory result, sometimes it is necessary to make two fillings.

    For breast reconstruction, we use anatomical prostheses made of silicone gel and round prostheses to increase the volume of another mammary gland if necessary. An expansive prosthesis allows you to gradually stretch the tissue. It is installed in an inadvertent state, and then, when both the skin and muscles have healed, the surgeon injects physiological saline through the subcutaneous valve to increase the size.
